Rear Extension - Completed 2016

An existing ground floor flat within an end of terrace house has been extended to create a new dining space facing onto the garden connected off the existing kitchen in the Sotheby Road Conservation Area in Islington.

The main section of the extension consists of a sloping frameless glazed roof sitting on vertical glazed sections and a glazed rear elevation. The aim is to create a lightweight, transparent structure to reduce impact at the most prominent upper part of the extension visible from the street, to maximise natural daylight given the north facing orientation, and provide a strong connection to the rear garden.

The floor to the extension is a porcelain tile to give the feel of an enclosed terrace, with the same tiles continuing outside up to the steps leading to the raised lawn.

Planning permission was granted in July 2014.
