Remodelling, Extension & Loft Conversion - Work in progress
The approach taken with the proposed extension to this three-storey detached house was to introduce a minimal amount of new materials so that the extension would have a sense of cohesion with the existing building, and also form a strong link between the house and garden. For these reasons it is proposed to use facing brickwork on the flanking walls to match the existing side walls of the main house, and full width, full height glazing to the rear elevation to take advantage of views out and access to the garden whilst also maximising natural light coming in.
The adjoining spaces of the house, playroom and former kitchen, will need exposure to natural daylight so an opening in the roof of the extension is proposed along the length of the existing outrigger, with frameless glass over.
